Dr. Joel Aronowitz: "What are we looking at here? I'll tell you. What we're looking at is the eye socket without everything that goes with it. This is just what a bony eye socket looks like with a very thin covering of skin applied.
The patient had a cancer. The eye, the eyelids, all of the structures around the eyeball, the globe, were removed. The nerve, the muscles, the fatty tissue and different fibrous layers were all removed and the patient had radiation after surgery for treatment of a cancer of the eye itself."
